Tuesday Tracks, Week 7

musicrunner

Time for new tunes!  Each week I will post seven songs, one for each day, to amp your workout.  No particular theme; just the tracks I’m currently enjoying.  Song seven will be a track for cool down and stretch.

Let me know if you have a favorite tune you would like to share!

1.  Queen, “Don’t Stop Me Now”

Nothing like a little Queen to get you warmed up!

2.  Mandisa, “Overcomer”

Another anthem song in which we are reminded that we are not going under.  Note to self: listen to this track in mile 22 of your marathon!

3.  Kanye West, “Stronger”

I mean, really.  Just run and run fast.

4.  Emimen, “Till I Collapse”

My playlist could be made up exclusively of Eminem because his bad ass lyrics get me going.  Explicit lyrics, BTW, if you have sensitive ears.

5.  Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, “Runnin’ Down a Dream”

This track gets my FB gal pal Wendy going, and it has been on my rotation since she recommended it!

6.  Chromeo, “Over Your Shoulder”

Catchy track for mid-run, when you’re groovin’ and have hit your stride.

7.  America, “A Horse With No Name”

I love this melodic track and it is fitting after a long run.

Friends, I’m a day late, but here are your Tuesday (er…Wednesday) tracks!

Time for new tunes!  Each week I will post seven songs, one for each day, to amp your workout.  No particular theme; just the tracks I’m currently enjoying.  Song seven will be a track for cool down and stretch.

Let me know if you have a favorite tune you would like to share!

1.  “The Bad in Each Other,” Feist

It takes a full minute for the song to start in this video, so just fast forward a bit to get to the GOOD stuff.  I love the off tempo and Feist’s voice is just gorgeous.

2.  “Free Bird,” Lynyrd Skynard

Take this tune on a longer run when you’re on open road and watch your tempo pick up as the guitar solos rage!

3.  “Burn it Down,” Linkin Park

I have heard critics say this isn’t “real” Linkin Park, and as fan from their start, I agree.  But it is a great track anyway.  🙂

4.  “All That I Know,” OCD: Moosh & Twist

I like this track for hills because the tempo is just right for me.

5.  “Pumpin’ Blood,” NONONO

This is one of those inspirational anthem songs that motivate me toward the end of runs.  “This is your heart…it’s alive…it’s pumpin’ blood!”

6.  “Spanish Guitar (H2Q Club Mix),” Toni Braxton

Another long track for a long empty road.  I used this one a ton when training for my last marathon, especially if I had a downhill portion to fly down.

7.  “Patience,” Guns n’ Roses

Just a beautiful track to cool it down.

1.  Capital Cities, One Minute More

The sun does shine.  Don’t wait one minute more to get your run on!

2.  Glass Animals, Pools

This song helps me disconnect from my runs on those days when I need a little disconnecting.  You know what I mean, right, friends?

3.  Big Data, “Dangerous”

Fun beat and the video features running (although it is admittedly odd!).

4.  James Brown, “I Got Ants in My Pants”

Just try to sit still when this song is playing!  I need to dance!

5.  Bunji Garlin, “Differentology”

A terrific track that always gets me moving in those final miles of a longer run.  Great tempo, strong beat.  We’re ready for the road!

6.  Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande, “Beneath Your Beautiful”

Starts off slow and mellow, then finds a terrific tempo for running.   Plus you can’t beat the message.

7.  Bob Dylan, “Shelter From the Storm”

Uplifting and feel good track for your cool down.

2.  R3hab, NERVO & Ummet Ozcan, “Revolution”

When the beat drops at 1:40, I crank up my speed on the treadmill and fly.

3.  Wolfmother, “Vagabond”

A great track from Brian, my former work husband and father to the amazing Sammie B.  Thanks, Mr. B!

4.  KONGOS, “Come With Me Now”

Unless you are living under a rock, you have heard this track.  It plays in Trader Joe’s all of the time!  I’m in love with the steady beat and their deep voices.

5.  Los Rakas featuring Faviola, “Abrazame”

Perfect running tempo and a fresh sound.

6.  P!nk, “Try”

Ever have those workouts where you might want to give up?  Feel like you could not possibly finish another minute, let alone another mile?  Turn on this track, listen to the lyrics, and GO.

Caught this track during the credits of “True Detective” one night and was instantly captivated.

1.  George V Beats, “Hip Hop Instrumental, Piano”

Haunting.  If you don’t like it instantly, it will grow on you.

2.  Swedish House Mafia, “Greyhound”

Let the beat take over your stride and just go.

3.  Bastille, “Bad Blood”

When I run without my iPod, this is the song that plays in my head.  Not sure why, but it stuck with me.

4.  Clean Bandit, “Rather Be”

Because when we are running, there is no place we would rather be.

5.  Bob Segar, “Like a Rock”

True story: my awesome coach sent me the lyrics of this song before my first trail race and they seriously pumped me up.  I later teased him for working out to this “elevator music,” but this track ends up in most of my workouts.

6.  Jimmy Eat World, “Pain!”

Pain is weakness leaving the body.  Great track to push past the wall.

7.  London Grammar, “Wasting My Young Years”

Just listen.

Let me know if you have a favorite tune you would like to share!

1.  Cher, “Woman’s World”

I dare you to slow down during this track, ladies!  Cher kills it and so will you.

2.  George Michael, “Faith”

Fun ’80s favorite with a good beat that gets my feet tapping.

3.  N’to, “Trauma” (Worakls remix)

This 10 minute track is fabulous for those long stretches of road (or treadmill) when you just need a quiet back beat to motivate your pace.

4.  Coldplay, “A Sky Full of Stars”

Thanks to my beautiful friend Julie for this track!

5.  Benny Benassi & Public Enemy, “Bring the Noise”

This track was used on an IronMan promo video; when it comes on my iPod, I envision myself on the hills of Kona finishing strong.  Some day I will cross this off my bucket list!  In the meantime, I have the song…

6.  Muse, “Madness”

Because, really, all of this running we do is some kind of madness. This track builds and builds until it explodes.  One of my current favorite tracks; I have it on repeat during some workouts!

7.  Quantic, “Sol Clap”

Mellow enough for cool down but with a steady beat to push you through to the end.

Tuesday Tracks, Week 1

Music can change your workout.  While I recently began running outdoors without music, my tunes are essential for the treadmill, lifting, and stretch.  I get pumped hearing a new track or an old favorite.  And, of course, music is a critical part of my spin classes.  There is no spin without some terrific tunes blasting through the speakers!

As a spin instructor, I get a lot of requests for playlists;  nothing makes happier than sharing good tunes.  So, each week, I will post seven songs, one for each day, to amp your workout.  No particular theme; just the tracks I’m currently enjoying.  Song seven will be a track for cool down and stretch.

Mellow yet upbeat track for warm up or long lengths of road.

2.  Rihanna featuring David Guetta, “Right Now”

Uptempo track with inspiring lyrics.

3.  Young the Giant, “My Body”

You try to stop when these gorgeous voices are yelling, “My body tells me no, but I won’t quit, ’cause I want more!”

4.  Earth, Wind, and Fire, “Fantasy”

You will find yourself jamming to this beat and singing along with the harmonies.  I promise.

5.  John Newman, “Love Me Again”

Catchy chorus and an all around fun time track.

6.  Royksopp and Robyn, “Do It Again”

Perfect track for interval work!  “It hurts so good!”

7.  Emika, “Wicked Game”

I love the original version of this song, but this one is haunting and addicting.
